What is a New Plastics Economy?
In a new plastics economy, plastic never becomes waste or pollution. Three actions are required to achieve this vision and create a circular economy for plastic. Eliminate all problematic and unnecessary plastic items. Innovate to ensure that the plastics we do need are reusable, recyclable, or compostable. Circulate all the plastic items we use to keep them in the economy and out of the environment.

The Green Blue is the environmental awareness programme set up by the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine. Its mission is to promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by boating and watersports participants, as well as the sustainable operation and development of the recreational boating industry.
The Green Blue’s objective is to help boaters and boating businesses to minimise their impact on the environment by raising awareness amongst industry and users; reducing harmful discharges; reducing environmental disturbance; and encouraging sustainable choices.
At Sea-Changers, the ocean is our passion. We are a charity aiming to raise thousands of pounds for marine conservation in the UK. Our vision is to create a world where the seas and shores are clean and healthy and marine species are protected.
What makes us different is how we raise the money for this important work. We aim to harness the energy, good will and resources of sea-users to create a sea-change in the amount of funding available for marine conservation.
Sea-changers works with partner companies such as dive companies, cruise holiday companies and marinas that rely on healthy oceans for their success. We develop bespoke fundraising partnerships with them. For example, some of our business have implemented an ‘opt-in’ fundraising model where customers are asked if they would like to make a small donation to Sea-Changers when paying for goods or services. Our partners then pass these donations on to us and we distribute 100% of the money raised to support marine conservation work
UN Environment launched #CleanSeas in February 2017, with the aim of engaging governments, the general public, civil society and the private sector in the fight against marine plastic litter.
Over the next five years, we will address the root-cause of marine litter by targeting the production and consumption of non-recoverable and single-use plastic. To do this effectively, we need citizens to be aware, engaged and active in addressing the problem in their own lives and beyond. We are also giving a platform to hundreds of local organizations who are already doing important work on marine litter to highlight their efforts.
By connecting individuals, civil society groups, industry and governments, UN Environment aims to transform habits, practices, standards and policies around the globe to dramatically reduce marine litter and the harm it causes.
